August 20, 2010 -- A new show of color photography by Frederick J. LeBlanc at Penobscot Marine Museum explores the harmony of sea, sky, and classic sailing ships. Part of the ongoing exhibit "Earning Their Keep: Maine's Windjammers," the display of LeBlanc's photographs runs August 26 through September 14 in the museum's Main Street Gallery.
A lifelong New Englander and resident of South Hadley, Massachusetts, LeBlanc has worked as a professional photojournalist for over thirty years. A visual storyteller, he uses his images to bring to the public a greater awareness and appreciation of our maritime heritage. His commercial and editorial images appear regularly in regional and national publications, and his fine art prints are sold at exhibits and juried art shows throughout New England and worldwide. His book Windjammers Downeast was published by WoodenBoat Publications.
Exhibiting a vivid photojournalistic clarity, LeBlanc's photographs nevertheless possess a painterly quality in their treatments of sea and sky. It is through this interplay between the realistic and the artistic that LeBlanc's work captures the harmony between sailing ships and the timeless forces of nature that are their element.
