Downeaster Days Summer Youth Program Offers Fun, Learning
27 April, 2011 – Kids will combine fun and learning at Downeaster Days week-long summer programs at Penobscot Marine Museum. With different activities every day, children from 5 to 11 years old will enjoy ceramics, photography, special guests, games, a field trip, and a birthday party to celebrate Penobscot Marine Museum's 75th anniversary.
Now in its sixth year, Downeaster Days is run by the museum's Education Department, recognized statewide for its innovative, hands-on and experiential programs that seamlessly combine learning with fun activities. Children will learn photography, pottery, and even history while they "play" with cameras, clay and other materials. Highlights of the week include a visit from the "Mudmobile" traveling pottery studio, and a field trip to Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, where children will board boats and ships as they learn about the maritime world.
Downeaster Days sessions run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Openings are available for children 5 to 7 years old during July 11-15 and July 18-22. The July 25-29 session is for children from 8 to 11 years old. The August 1-5 and August 8-12 sessions are multi-age (5 to 11 year olds). Financial aid is available.
