"Old Waldo County" Slide Talk At Hutchinson Center

April 15, 2011 -- A slide talk featuring old photographs of Waldo County and commentary by local historians will be held at the University of Maine Hutchinson Center in Belfast, April 28 at 6:30 p.m. The talk, "Old Waldo County Views," will cap a months-long exhibit of historic Waldo County photography at the school.
Kevin Johnson, Photo Archivist at Penobscot Marine Museum, will present dozens of black-and-white images made from old glass plate negatives in the museum's Eastern Illustrating & Publishing Co. collection. Most of the images are 75 to 100 years old. Eastern Illustrating was a Belfast-based postcard publisher that produced tens of thousands of images of Maine and New England in the early 20th century.
According to Johnson, members of local historical societies will be on hand to answer questions and provide additional commentary on the photos, and audience members are additionally welcome to add their insights and remembrances of these scenes of past days. Historians and history buffs who wish to play a role in the program are invited to contact Johnson at the museum: 207-548-2529 ext.210.
