Historic Walk
The Penobscot Marine Museum Campus is spread through aseries of buildings and is on the Register of Historic Places. Most have been converted to exhibit galleries.
- 1.Fowler-True-Ross House.
- Sea Captain's Home. Furnished in the victorian Period, this former sea captain's home displays the material world 19th century seafaring families enjoyed. Personal treasures from around the world speak to the wide travels of these families. ( wheelchair access first floor)
- 2.Old Vestry
- This historic former schoolhouse and Congregational Church Vestry, holds rotating exhibitions and special programs.
- 3. Ross Carriage Barn
- 5. Duncan Boat Barn
- The Museum's regional watercraft collection fisheries (lower level) and recreational small craft (upper level). The Boat House displays some of the Museum's larger watercraft. Additional watercraft are displayed in the Fowler-True-Ross Barn.( wheelchair access first floor)
- 6. Merithew House
- Working the Bay explores 19th century coastal industries and life. Marine art is on display and usually includes selections from the museum's internationally known marine art collection. Other galleries house rotating exhibits of marine arts.( wheelchair access first floor)
- 7. Old Town Hall
- Challenge of the Down Easter - Traces the rise of Maine's prominence in international seafaring and shipping.
Travels to the Pacific Rim - Glimpse into the fascinating life led by Joanna and Lincoln Colcord, as they travelled the world aboard shops captained by their father. - 8. First Congregational Church of Searsport
- (not a museum building) This is an active congregation. The Church has invited museum visitors to view the beautiful sanctuary. ( wheelchair access)
- 9. Stephen Phillips Memorial Library
- The museum's research center, open year round, houses extensive collections of material ranging from maritime history t geology.( wheelchair access)
- 10. Savage Education Center
- The Josiah Dutch house is home for the Museum's educational program.( wheelchair access first floor)
- 11. Douglas and Margaret Carver Memorial Art Gallery
- houses special exhibits. ( wheelchair access)
- 12. Museum Store/Admissions/Gallery Space
- Come find treasures celebrating Maine's seafaring heritage. ( wheelchair access)
