Penobscot Bay History Online
Educational Resource
Penobscot Bay History Online is our dedicated education website. Students and teachers can learn about maritime history and culture in nine education modules; search our collections to support student research projects; use our glossary to help understand maritime terminology; and read the journal of a 16-year-old boy who sailed from Belfast to California and back in 1866. We provide an online guidebook for aligning our education modules with the Maine State Learning Results.
M.A.T.E.S. Guidebook
Each web unit presents narrative content that expands the outlined material in the museum's guidebook for teachers. The guide is called M.A.T.E.S. - Museum and Teachers Educating Students-Addressing Maine's Learning Results Using the Collections of Penobscot Marine Museum.
M.A.T.E.S. is available in print form from the museum. It is also available on this website as Word documents within each unit, and in PDF. M.A.T.E.S. provides outlines of our nine topics, relevant Performance Indicators for each grade grouping, suggested activities, and print and electronic resources for further information.
